Photographs collected by actress Jeanette Thomas Barlow (1891-1977), originally of Portland, Or., and her husband, Howard Barlow (1892-1972), a symphony conductor. Most of the photographs are family portraits and depict Jeanette Barlow's ancestors, including members of the related Cardwell, Dalton, and Thomas families, as well as the family of Howard Barlow. Other photographs depict Jeanette Barlow's childhood; her first marriage to Leigh Hackley Smith; and her second marriage to Howard Barlow. There is also one photograph of the Chalmers family homestead near Cornelius, Or. The collection includes ambrotypes and tintypes, as well as genealogical and biographical information about the Barlows.
